Question 1

What is One Original Principle?

Accepted Answer

One Original Principle is the founding governance of OAC's design practice. Every commissioned object is produced once. No editions, no artist's proofs, no future versions. The object exists as a singular instance or not at all.

Question 2

What is Monastic Veto?

Accepted Answer

Monastic Veto is OAC's absolute right to decline any commission inquiry, at any stage of the process, without explanation. The Veto is structural: it cannot be overridden by fee, status, or relationship. The Monastic Veto exists because the commission process is a conversation, not a transaction.

Question 3

What is Material Singularity?

Accepted Answer

Material Singularity is the condition of an object that exists as a single, unrepeatable instance: not a scarcity strategy but an ontological state. The singular object is not one of a limited run. It is the only one that will ever exist.

Question 4

What is Hollowed Object?

Accepted Answer

Hollowed Object is an object that has been stripped of its original semantic content through mass reproduction, brand dilution, or speculative commodification. The Hollowed Object retains the exterior signs of value while the interior conditions that produced those signs have been eliminated.

Question 5

What is Speculative Velocity?

Accepted Answer

Speculative Velocity is the rate at which an object's market value accelerates beyond its material or cultural worth, driven by financial abstraction rather than intrinsic meaning. High Speculative Velocity is the marker of a market that has decoupled from the objects it prices.

Question 6

What is Zero-Sum Aura?

Accepted Answer

Zero-Sum Aura is the condition in which an object's aura (its unique presence in time and space) has been consumed by its own reproduction. Every copy produced extracts from the original's singular authority until nothing remains but the image of what once had presence.

Question 7

What is Semantic Burden?

Accepted Answer

Semantic Burden is the accumulation of meaning an object must carry as it moves through time and multiple custodians. High Semantic Burden is the condition of an object that has witnessed significant events, been held by significant people, or survived conditions that tested its material integrity.

Question 8

What is Narrative Permanence?

Accepted Answer

Narrative Permanence is the capacity of an object to maintain a coherent, verifiable account of its own existence across time. An object with Narrative Permanence cannot be separated from its story without becoming a different object.

Question 9

What is Anti-Sale Covenant?

Accepted Answer

Anti-Sale Covenant is the contractual prohibition against the resale, transfer, or liquidation of a commissioned object without OAC's explicit consent. The Covenant is permanent in its intent and time-bound in its enforced restriction, establishing a minimum holding period before any transfer…

Question 10

What is Custodian's Contract?

Accepted Answer

Custodian's Contract is the binding agreement between OAC and the patron that transforms acquisition into stewardship. The Contract names the custodian, establishes the Burden of Preservation, and activates the Anti-Sale Covenant. It is not a sales receipt. It is a transfer of responsibility.

Question 11

What is Labor Density?

Accepted Answer

Labor Density is the measure of irreducible human effort per unit of material in an object's production. Labor Density is high when the object could not exist without a specific investment of specific human skill over specific time. It cannot be replicated by automation.

Question 12

What is Institutional Necrophagy?

Accepted Answer

Institutional Necrophagy is the process by which cultural institutions consume the symbolic authority of the objects in their collections, reducing living artifacts to administrative files. The institution that practices Institutional Necrophagy preserves objects while eliminating their functional…

Question 13

What is Aura Transaction?

Accepted Answer

Aura Transaction is the exchange in which an object's cultural or historical authority is leveraged for market gain: converting accumulated meaning into financial value without replenishing the meaning consumed. An Aura Transaction extracts without depositing.

Question 14

What is Structural Captivity?

Accepted Answer

Structural Captivity is the condition of an object (or an institution, or a market) that cannot exit its current value framework without destroying the conditions that produce its value. Structural Captivity is the trap that luxury brands build for themselves through their own success.

Question 15

What is Burden of Preservation?

Accepted Answer

Burden of Preservation is the ongoing responsibility accepted by the custodian to maintain, protect, and document the object across its lifetime in their care. The Burden is not punitive: it is the condition under which the object retains its full meaning.

Question 16

What is Conceptual Depth?

Accepted Answer

Conceptual Depth is the measurable degree to which an object's meaning exceeds its material composition. An object with high Conceptual Depth cannot be fully accounted for by describing its materials, dimensions, or production process. Conceptual Depth is not complexity for its own sake.

Question 17

What is Custodial Stewardship?

Accepted Answer

Custodial Stewardship is the ethics of care, preservation, and institutional responsibility. Ownership is not a license for exploitation; it is a serious custodial obligation to shield the object's provenance and meaning from market erosion. Its axis is the ethics of care and its mandate is…

Question 18

What is Invasive Commodification?

Accepted Answer

Invasive Commodification is the post-transactional exploitation of a physical or digital asset, wherein a manufacturer breaches the boundary of private ownership by remotely inserting unsolicited commercial messaging, third-party content, or secondary monetization into an individual's personal…

Question 19

What is Object Permanence?

Accepted Answer
